Tuesday

The Speech Pathologist came in this morning to evaluate her swallow. She has a minimal swallow. When something gets to the back of her throat she then swallows a little. But she can't get the food from the front of her mouth to the back in order to swallow. The Dr. feels it isn't safe for her to get nutrition from her mouth until she can swallow better. So she will need the feeding tube a little longer. The Dr. will be come back each day to work with her more until she goes to the rehab. center. She still may need the tube in her stomach. She if definitely more awake today and seems to know what is going on. It's going to be a difficult road ahead of us, but I have confidence in God that He will get her through this and we will see the old Ashlyn before we know it.

  1. Liz & Todd - we are trusting and believing with you. I am reminded of the blind man who was healed by Jesus. It didn't happen immediately, Jesus spit in the mud and made clay, spread it on the man's eyes and told him to go wash in the pool and when he did then he was healed. (John 9:6&7). This healing occurred in steps! Although we continue to pray for a supernatural healing for Ashlyn, I continue to ask for His will to be done in her. I ask that He give the doctors and staff at the hospital His "wisdom" in all decisions they must make concerning what is best for Ashlyn so that the process of healing in her may continue "one step at a time". May the Lord bless you today - Ellen

  2. Dear Liz and Todd - I am in agreement with Ellen, Praise God for all that has come to pass so far, and we will Praise Him for all He has planned in the future for our little AShlyn. God is good all the time, not just sometimes. He is healing her right now. In His steps and in His time. Strength and courage to you both we are lifting you all up in prayer and God is listening to them all and responding to them all. He knows how many people love Ashlyn and want her healthy and strong again. I can recall Sister Sylvia Evans saying once God makes deals with moms. So Liz God hears your prayers for your little girl and is not ignoring your requests. Trust Him He knows what is best for your special beautiful daughter. Oh I know she is yours too Todd but that is what Sylvia Evans said once. God's richest blessings on all of you, always, love the Skinners

  3. Liz and Todd,
God gave Ashlyn to you both because He knows you and He knew of all these troubled waters that were ahead. Have strength He will carry you through...remember, Liz, He gave you Ashlyns' name even before you were pregnant.
No doubt it will be a rough and long road, but you all will be fine, with the strength of God and the help and prayers of many.
    Love Oma

  4. Hi Liz and Todd,

Please know we are praying for you all. I'm not sure if you remember, but when Ceci first came home she had a very hard time moving food in her mouth, and swallowing. As a matter of fact, I had to do the Heimlich (sp?) on her 3 different times. She drooled all the time. She had a hard time moving her tongue, and moving the food where it needed to go to chew properly, and swallow it properly. I want to encourage you. They have so many fun exercises that they do with them, that they don't even realize they are giving their mouth a "workout." She used to think it was great fun!

May the Lord lift you in His mighty right hand and strengthen and comfort you each step of the way.

    Love ya,
    Vicki

  5. I couldn't agree with your mom more!! I truly believe God gave you Ashlyn knowing you two could handle what road was going to be ahead! He will hold your hands through it and help you, but he KNEW you could get through this, and you will!! Ashlyn is a very tough cookie...before you know it I bet she'll be running around again! I'm sure it'll seem like forever right now while you're going through it, but some day you'll look back and see how it was just another bump in the road. We're all here for you NO MATTER what you need. We Love You ALL!!
    Love Heather

  6. You don't know me, but I have been following your story through your cousin. It sounds like Ashlyn is progressing wonderfully, just a little slowly for your liking. It's completely understandable that you just want your little girl back to normal, but please don't be discouraged. She truly is making great progress. The feeding tube doesn't have to be permanent, and it's certainly a whole lot better than the risk of choking or aspiration pneumonia in her fragile condition. The rehab place will work with her extensively on her swallowing so she can eat safely again. God bless you all and your strong faith through this horrific time.
